What will the next version of flash be like?

    What will the next version of flash be like?

    Flash mx2005 or flash 9?

    And i think that flash should have a built in 3d editor like swift 3d, but in flash!

    That would be great!

    And will it be new versions of dreamweaver etc (Studio 9)?

  • "AS3" is ActionScript version 3. It will be similar to AS 2.0 but compile to it's own bytecode rather than just being a wrapper for Actionscript 1.0 with a different approach to the object orientation part.

  • I would expect Flash 9 (development name Blaze ;)) to have more than just AS 3.0. That's already in Flash Player 8.5 (alpha currently) and is supposed to have a plug-in for the current Flash 8 when it is fully released. At least to the best of my understanding.

  • Next will be Flash 9. The only difference that I know of so far is the introduction of AS3.

  • FP 9 should have more than just the new virtual machine. You should probably expect other features along with that, whatever they might be. 8.5 is just 8 with the new AVM2 virtual machine included to help with Flex 2 testing.


  • Colin Moock anounced that he's currently writing Essential Actionscript 3.0 for release of flash 9. I would also expect a public alpha of flash 9 in the new year (aparantly for licenced flash 8 pro customers only) all done through macromedia labs.


  • I think it's rather intresting that the first player to use AS 3.0 is player 8.5... Shouldn't that be Player 9? Or is there going to be a Flash 8.5? Pherhaps a simpler upgrade of the current Flash 8? Or did I miss something?
