Water and Ice on top of Winter Pool Cover?

Posted in: zjnq.com Date: March 13th, 2010

  • My wife and I have recently moved into a new home with a pool. During closing the seller advised to keep the winter cover free of water by pumping it off. We purchased a cover pump and stayed on top it fairly well until just recently. We now have at least an inch of frozen solid water on top of the cover (thicker in some spots). Not sure what to do? What is the harm in leaving water and/or ice on the pool cover until the Spring?

  • its perfectly fine

  • You should be fine. the harm would be that the weight can pull the sides on an above ground pool. Don't lose sleep over it. To avoid this next year get an air pillow and put it in the center of the pool before covering.

  • No harm what so ever.I always have ice on mine. You would loose your mind trying to keep the water off the cover all winter long.

  • The weight of the water/ice will rip the cover

Keep in mind that the cover is not sitting on water, it is sitting over water (probably by at least 1 foot)
