Rocco Baldelli to Boston? And how about Junichi Tazawa?

Posted in: zjnq.com Date: March 15th, 2010

  • The Red Sox have reportedly been talking to Baldelli, would it be a good move to sign him? Can he stay healthy? And anybody have any info on Tazawa is he a number 2? 3?
Think the Sox will get either?

  • Baldelli has health issues, so he would have to be a 4th OF I haven't heard of anyone else being too interested so I would assume he would be coming home.

Tazawa... on teh Sox staff? I don't think he would be a number pitcher on that staff... the only thing that is certain as far as staff rankings is that wake is the 5th guy, other than that all the rest of the guys are 1's or 2's somewhere less fortuanate... so from what I hear Tazawa is a 2 in one of these less fortunate franchises.

Which is good b/c now Masterson is in teh bullpen... the real 64k$ question now is what's up with Tek?

  • I think if the Red Sox want Baldelli, he will sign with them. They have shown some interest so far, but might be weighing some other options. He has local ties and would be a nice PR fit. He also can play all three OF spots and hits lefties well. This makes him attractive if he can stay healthy.

It looks like Tazawa might be a Red Sox sooner than expected(I left a link). From what I've read it looks like he has the talent to be a solid #2, though he will need some time in the minors(another link on his ability).

  • baldelli was a number 1 draft pick so unlikely he would be moved, plus he is just coming back from injury or whatever so i wouldn't expect the sox or any other team to get him. As for Tazawa, he wants to stay in Japan untill he gets 200 wins there. He has 48 wins there so see hiom in 6 years. Plus they are only going to offer 6 mil so if he does get moved to the us, there will be a series of bidding.

  • Baldelli? He could certainly fit in as a 4th OF if this weird disease he has can be kept in check. Muscle fatigue can really hamper a ML career. I hope the best for him either way!

I don't think Tazawa will be ready to jump right into the Sox rotation, these guys from Japan could really benefit from some time in the minors. The strike zone is called differently in the US than the NPB and the ball is actually slightly larger in the US. Matsuzaka has had success but it's baffling at times and he's had a really up and down two seasons despite the WS win in '07.

  • Baldelli should be able to stay healthy as long as he only plays once or twice a week. There's no way to know how Japanese pitchers will adapt to the MLB. I think JT's probably a #3. However, right now it seems like he wants to stay in Japan. Baldelli might come though.

Edit: Actually, Tazawa is probably coming to the Red Sox. Darvish was the guy who is probably staying in Japan. I can never get all of the Japanese free agents straight until about midseason lol.
