How bad are cheap LCD TV's?

Posted in: zjnq.com Date: March 9th, 2010

  • I see a lot of tv's at wal mart and such for under $500 but they are a name i have never heard of. Just wondering if they are worth buying. Im not worried about supreme quality picture, i just do not want it to break.

  • any electronic equipment can go bad, regardless of the brand. my mother has had an lcd without any visible logo from a friggin flea market for 3 years. it stays on for 12 hrs per day, 7 days per week, and never missed a beat. Personally, I'd never buy a cheaper brand, but hey, it's my money, right?

  • The problem with the no name brands is that they are made from parts obtained from the lowest bidders by a mix of manufacturers in assorted countries. And the parts aren't around very long. Trying to get one repaired, even under warranty is sometimes impossible, parts no longer available. Usually, the warranty is shorter than a year as well.

Sometimes, Amazon has closeouts or just really good prices on similar tvs, and for free shipping and no tax, it's better to get a name which will be around in case you need repair.
