In a recent issue of Eos (http://www.agu.org/pubs/eos/eo0725.shtml), I see that the International Hurricane Research Center (http://www.ihrc.fiu.edu/media/news.htm) is now building a new "Wall of Wind (http://www.techreview.com/Infotech/18822/?a=f)" which will generate category 5 or 160 mph winds for modelling effects on full scale structures. Although it cannot cover the wind speeds of the most intense tornadoes, it does cover most and is enough to destroy many if not most houses. The complexities of tornadic vortex winds aren't modelled either, but it's the first time (at least in the US) this has been done and should make for some very interesting results. The portable machine could probably pay for itself in one season by simply providing instant atmosphere for TWC live remotes.maybe they could roll that thing out to the plains next year, point it straight up and do some cap busting? :DPoint it vertically, and voila!
You have a great skydiving open vertical wind tunnel!#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
