x(squared) + 13x + 22 = 0
x(squared) + 13x + 22 = 0
(x + 11) (x + 2) = 0 (11x+2x=13x and 11x2=22, which is how I got)
x + 11 = 0 x + 2 = 0
subtract 11 subtract 2 (from both sides)
x = -11 x = -2
Hence -11 or -2!!
(x + 2)(x + 11) = 0
x = -2 or -11
so for factoring you need 2 numbers that multiply for 22 and add for 13, which are 2 and 11
then when you get (x + 2)(x + 11) = 0
remember that if you multiply 2 things and get 0 then at least one of those 2 things is zero, hence
x + 2 = 0 or x + 11 = 0
x = -2 or x = -11
(x+2)(x+11)=0
x+2=0
x=-2
x+11=0
x=-11
